5 ways to reduce Microsoft Teams RAM usage
1 Quit after meetings
If you only use Teams for meetings, quit it completely between calls. Don't let it run in the background consuming 1+ GB.
2 Disable auto-start
Remove Teams from Login Items (System Settings → General → Login Items) so it only runs when you actually need it.
3 Use the web version
The Teams web app works well for chat and video calls. Using it in a browser tab avoids the Electron overhead.
4 Disable GIF auto-play
Settings → General → Auto-play animated images. Disabling this prevents Teams from keeping decoded GIF frames in memory.
5 Leave large teams and channels
Each team and channel adds to the background sync load. Leave teams and channels you don't actively participate in.
